Full text of Trump’s inauguration speech
Thank you Chief Justice Roberts, President Carter, President Clinton, President Bush, President Obama, the American people and the people of the world.
We, the citizens of America, are engaged in a great national effort to rebuild our country and restore its promise to all our people.
Every four years, we gather on these steps to effect a peaceful and orderly transition of power.
However, today’s ceremony has a very special meaning.
For too long, a small group in the capital has benefited from the government while the people have suffered.
The ruling class protects itself, not the people.
It belongs to everyone gathered here today and to those watching across America.
The real issue is not which party controls the government, but whether our government is controlled by the people or not.
Everyone is listening to you now.
At the heart of this movement is a central creed, that the nation exists to serve the people.
Those are legitimate and reasonable needs of righteous people and righteous public opinion.
We are one nation, their pain is our pain.
My oath of office today is an oath of allegiance to all Americans.
We protect other countries’ borders, while refusing to protect our own.
We have spent thousands and trillions of dollars abroad, while America’s infrastructure is falling into disrepair and disrepair.
We enrich other countries, while our nation’s prosperity, strength, and confidence have scattered beyond the horizon.
The wealth of the middle class was stripped from their homes and then distributed around the world.
But that is the past and now we only look to the future.
