(Dan Tri) – Russian political analysts warn that North Korea may have an unpredictable reaction if it is cornered by international sanctions.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un inspected a missile launch over Japan on September 15, a few days after the Security Council passed new sanctions on Pyongyang.
On September 11, the United Nations Security Council approved new, tougher sanctions against North Korea after its recent series of nuclear and missile tests.
These sanctions are said to be intended to pressure North Korea to abandon its controversial nuclear and missile programs.
However, Russian political analyst Andrei Manoylo commented to Sputnik news agency that North Korea can easily withstand these new sanctions.
“Sanctions are really ineffective, especially with North Korea, because they are inherently self-sufficient.
This expert pointed out that increasing pressure on Pyongyang could have the opposite effect.
“If cornered, North Korea could start selling missile technology.
He said: `We need another solution, we should show North Korea opportunities for cooperation, we should encourage them to join international organizations so they are aware of international obligations.
Since 2006, the United Nations Security Council has passed nine sanctions resolutions against North Korea.
Russian President Vladimir Putin once warned that North Korea `would rather eat grass than give up its nuclear program`.
Russian President Vladimir Putin also said on September 6 that the problem on the Korean peninsula cannot be solved by sanctions and pressure alone.
“Obviously, the problem on the Korean peninsula cannot be resolved with sanctions and pressure alone.
The Russian leader also warned that a military attack on North Korea, if it happened, would lead to a `global disaster`.
