Americans in Vietnam write about Covid-19: `Proud of second home` 0
(Dan Tri) – As an American living and working in Ho Chi Minh City, Christopher Otis feels proud of his second home when living safely here, while the whole world is affected by the epidemic.

“67 days.
Otis currently lives in Ho Chi Minh City.
According to Otis, in the US, his home country, there are still 20,000-30,000 new Covid-19 cases every day, on average, one person is confirmed to be infected every 3-4 seconds.
Otis believes that Vietnam has not received worthy international recognition for a number of achievements, most notably the effort to completely control the Covid-19 epidemic.
“For those who do not live in Vietnam, it is difficult to know how wonderfully this country has fought the epidemic.
Otis believes that Vietnam is only a little lucky to achieve the above achievements, and its success is mainly due to its efforts in methodical response and smooth implementation to avoid the scenario of an overloaded health system.
According to Otis, as a teacher, the first thing he noticed was that Vietnam closed schools nationwide right after the Lunar New Year holiday.
In addition to closing schools, Vietnam implemented strict pathogen tracing measures, closed borders, and forced quarantine for suspected exposure cases.
“It’s not an exaggeration if I find it strange to listen every day to the epidemic situation in the US and around the world while I ride a motorbike to meet (Vietnamese) students without masks.
“In fact, I was in the US at the end of January when the epidemic started to be reported in international media and I wondered if flying to Asia in early February would be a safe choice.
“It is difficult to express in words how proud I am of my second home and living safely in this country while the whole world is affected by the epidemic.
