How do you ensure the security of the Queen's grand ceremony? 6
Queen Elizabeth II, 96 years old, today reviewed the lineup of the Trooping the Color parade, opening the four-day Platinum Jubilee commemorating the 70th anniversary of her reign.
Queen Elizabeth II succeeded her father King George VI in 1952, when she was 25 years old.
This is likely to be Britain’s first and only Platinum Jubilee, and possibly the last major celebration of the Queen’s reign.
Philip Grindell, a former London police officer and founder and chief executive of Defuse Global, an organization that protects and advises some of Britain’s most famous people, opens up about potential security threats.
According to Grindell, counter-terrorism police will work diligently throughout the occasion to ensure that any attack attempts by a `lone wolf` or organized terrorist group are prevented.
Police will search the entire venue early in the morning of the event.
Crowds attend the Trooping the Color parade, opening the Platinum Jubilee commemorating the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s reign in London on June 2.
Grindell added that there could be `potential search areas` where police could `randomly` search people or search everyone.
According to Grindell, there will be a `massive process` around `identified individuals` attending royal events and there is a specific group of people brought to the attention of the FTAC (Defined Threat Assessment Center).
Police will `closely monitor` these individuals as they sometimes try to `cause trouble` or `intrude` on royal events.
Activist groups also have the potential to use `events to promote their campaigns,` Grindell said.
Security experts say this could cause trouble because anarchists would become targets of royalists, leading to fights.
Pickpockets can also take advantage of the event to `practice`, targeting the crowd gathered at the event.
Mr Grindell said ensuring safety for the event would be a `massive operation`, but London police were familiar with such operations and would respond effectively.
`There is a specialized office to respond to such events and they have a very high level of expertise and professionalism. Planning will be done over many weeks, even months,` Grindell emphasized.
The police force today controlled and prevented two people from separating from the crowd to run into The Mall, the street in front of Buckingham Palace, where military bands and guards were gathering in formation to prepare for the parade.
