August and autumn are winding down to their final days to make way for September – the time when a new school year is about to begin.
For students, the new school year has begun in July, when the cicadas are still straining their necks to remind everyone that `summer is not over yet`, when poinciana flowers appear on the trees.
The elders will probably think: `Why do children study so much nowadays? In our time, high school only lasted until the 7th grade, so we didn’t learn that much.`
At that time, we were busy catching ticks, fishing, hunting buffalo, cutting grass, flying kites, and roaming around during the summer months.
Maybe in my time, there was little knowledge or the teachers were busy with other things and didn’t have time to teach.
Today’s children’s learning makes them remember a little bit of their childhood, the pure childhood of being able to play freely without having to worry about `Oh no, I’m ready to go to school`.
I have a grandchild who is in 7th grade this year, and summer vacation starts at the end of May, but in June, his parents forced him to take extra lessons from this teacher, that teacher, so that those teachers can teach the program in advance.
His father even declared: `Let your children learn from the teachers who will teach them in the 7th grade so they can get used to them. In 7th grade, the teachers will know their faces and give priority to helping them with their studies.`
That’s the story of the summer months, when the children are still resting at home and `having fun` with extra subjects.
Vietnam ranks 5th in the world in terms of private tutoring.
I wonder why students have to study so much now?
But the truth behind the so-called extra learning is actually just learning to gain connections.
Please tell me, it is truly a new invention.
The other day I had the opportunity to go to an older brother’s house to visit and saw that his child had to `carry` a big bag to school on Sundays, saying he was going to extra classes.
I asked: `Why does your child study so much? He goes to school all week and then stops to study after a break. Aren’t you afraid that he will have trouble reading?`.
`I also want my child to rest, but I’m afraid that if I don’t study, the teacher will think this and that, and it will be a disadvantage for my child. The whole class will learn, isn’t it? It costs a bit of money, but the teachers
Perhaps my friend’s thought of `being cared for` and my nephew’s father’s thought of `being helped` are the thoughts of hundreds of people with children going to school.
I don’t have to wait until I have children.

Students must take extra classes organized by the school, even if they are studying somewhere else.
