Secretary of State Blinken: Vietnam-US relations have progressed amazingly 3
`For the United States and President Joe Biden’s administration, the relationship with Vietnam is one of the most dynamic and important relationships. The trend of Vietnam-US relations over the past decades is extremely impressive.
He recalled that when the US lifted the trade embargo on Vietnam in 1994 to move toward normalization, trade between the two countries was almost zero.
`Twenty years later, in 2015, when I first came here, Vietnam-US trade had reached about 45 billion USD and we all see this number continuing to increase. Today, the two countries are approaching the milestone.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with the press in Hanoi on the afternoon of April 15.
He commented that Vietnam and the US are cooperating closely not only in trade and investment, but also in nearly every field of importance to the people of the two countries, including science and technology,
Secretary of State Blinken shared that the US `appreciates Vietnam’s indispensable leadership role` in addressing development challenges in the Mekong region, including climate change and impacts from other economic activities.
In addition, the US believes that Vietnam can achieve its goal of becoming a high-income country by 2045 with an equitable development orientation and building good adaptability to climate change.
`The United States has seen that relations with Vietnam have progressed incredibly over the past few years and decades. Personally, as well as the entire United States, I feel extremely satisfied with these developments,` he said.
