5 days since the suspected case was discovered, Ho Chi Minh City authorities have not confirmed whether this person has Covid-19 or not.
According to Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health Nguyen Tan Binh, this man had fever, difficulty breathing, sore throat, loss of taste, and an X-ray showed pneumonia, which are all quite typical symptoms of Covid-19.
Mr. Binh said that as soon as the first test result was positive, the health sector considered this case as suspected infection to implement epidemic prevention measures.
`It’s possible that this is a case of being infected a long time ago, and when discovered, it was in the final stages of the disease, or like previous cases that were infected and tested positive again,` Mr. Binh said.
The health sector has investigated, traced, and sealed off the place where this person lives, taken samples for testing of close contacts, and taken extensive samples to monitor surrounding households.
Currently, 32 people in close contact are still in centralized quarantine.
`The health sector will continue to retest people living in alley 954 Quang Trung, because this area has a restaurant with a lot of traffic,` Mr. Binh shared.
During the previous epidemic, related to the outbreak cluster from Tan Son Nhat airport in February, Ho Chi Minh City health officials also recorded a strange phenomenon that Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son called `a situation that arose at that time`.
Quang Trung clinic staff was sent to quarantine on the evening of May 20.
In the past week, Ho Chi Minh City discovered two chains of community transmission.
The other chain includes two colleagues from the same company in District 3, with `patient 4514` – a young man living in Thu Duc City, `patient 4583` – a woman living in District 7, recorded on May 18.
